Carilion Clinic’s orthopaedic surgery team provides treatments for hip pain with the goal of decreasing pain, slowing the progression of degenerative hip disease and restoring normal hip function. Hip preservation is generally for patients in their teens up to their 50’s although it may be an option for people who are older or younger.
Patients who are diagnosed with hip dysplasia or hip impingement are best treated when diagnosed early. This early intervention should reduce the risk for premature arthritis and hip replacement surgery later in life.
Athletes who use repetitive motions in the hip joint such as dancers or adults who were diagnosed with hip dysplasia as a child are candidates for hip preservation procedures.
